The Dogue de Bordeaux is a massive, low, wrinkled mastiff with a huge head, a short red or fawn coat, and a powerful, slightly rectangular body. The jaw is undershot.

The Dogue de Bordeaux is a French mastiff used as a guardian and, in earlier centuries, as a catching dog. It is a giant, short-faced breed.

Temperament

This is a calm, territorial guardian. It is typically devoted to its own household and reserved with strangers. It is too large and too protective for a first-time owner or a small, busy street.

Training

Socialize early and keep the rules clear. A Dogue that is allowed to lean on people becomes hard to live with.

Care and grooming

Wipe the short coat and keep the wrinkles clean and dry. Grow this giant slowly and keep adults lean.

Health

Dogue de Bordeaux may develop hip dysplasia, heart disease, eyelid problems, and bloat. Lifespan is short for a giant breed.
